Frontline Heroes
In early 2020, the world went into a period of self-quarantining and working from home. Weekends became mundane and I grew frustrated because of how helpless I felt in this situation. But an idea struck me when I saw my sofubi collection and I thought, why not make a toy? When I think about how serious Covid-19 is, the unique angle from the toy community allows the public to view the situation in a positive light. So instead of seeing heroes in stereotypical costumes, Frontline Heroes represents the everyday heroes based on real people working on the frontline. Together with toy designer Jeremy Yap, we collaborated with the Museum of Toys to auction the project. Proceeds of the sale went to WHO to help fund medical efforts in handling the global pandemic such as improving access to proper equipment, building lab capacity for testing, and supporting research for vaccine and treatments.
